We have wastepaper yards in Japan and the U.S.A., and are working from a global perspective to recycle used paper as a raw material for papermaking.
The Japan Pulp & Paper Group fully entered the recovered paper recycling business in 1973, and has continued to expand these operations throughout Japan. Furthermore, through collaboration with partner companies throughout Japan, we have established a comprehensive network for the recovery of wastepaper, and are providing a stable supply of recovered paper to paper manufacturers to use as a raw material for papermaking. In addition, some business sites have secured information security management systems and other security certifications for the processing of confidential documents, for which there has been an increasing need in recent years.
Taking advantage of our experience and know-how in the wastepaper recycling business we have cultivated in Japan, we commenced operations outside of Japan in the United States in 1998. In the United States, we are developing a wastepaper recycling business centered around Safeshred in Los Angeles. Centered around the Southern California region, we collect and shred office wastepaper, such as confidential documents, from government agencies and major corporations in central and local areas using special security containers. Furthermore in 2018, OVOL Fibre Solution India commenced operations in India as part of our efforts to continue expanding our wastepaper collection network outside of Japan.
