Circular Business Model
We are a multinational corporate group operating in five main business segments: Japan Wholesaling, Non-Japan Wholesaling, Paper Manufacturing & Processing, Raw Materials & Environment, and Real Estate Leasing. We are a leader in the Japanese paper distribution industry, and we aim to become the world's leading paper distribution group, developing businesses such as paper wholesaling in various countries and regions throughout the world.
Furthermore, as a group that handles the highly environmentally friendly material "paper," we are working to create a circular economy through upstream and downstream initiatives under our corporate slogan, “Paper, and Beyond.”
Moving forward, in order to fulfill our group's mission of "carving a better future for society and the environment," we will continue to contribute to the creation of a circular economy through the new functionality and value of paper.
The Japan Pulp & Paper Group by the Numbers
The origins of Japan Pulp & Paper can be traced back to 1845, when the traditional Japanese paper (washi) merchant "Echisan Shoten" was founded in Kyoto. Since then, we have continued to create value while constantly grasping the changes of the times and society and transforming our business.
We will contribute to the sustainable development of society by identifying the areas in which we can best leverage the three strengths (ability to make proposals, technological strengths, and organizational capabilities) we have built based on trust, drawing up management strategies, taking on challenges, and mobilizing the collective strength of the group.
The Japan Pulp & Paper Group has captured the evolving needs of society over time, advancing diversification and globalization with paper at its core. Currently, we are focusing on businesses that contribute to the creation of a circular economy, and working towards realizing the OVOL Vision 2030 long-term business strategy, which was formulated in 2021 as the ideal vision for our group.
Moving forward, we will continue to advance our business activities that realize both economic and social value, aiming to enhance our contributions to the environment, communities, culture, and society.
We will refine our know-how and network cultivated over more than 170 years in the paper and paperboard wholesaling business to become recognized as the world’s leading paper distribution group.
In addition to our core paper and paperboard wholesaling business, through the recycling of recovered paper and other materials, paper manufacturing, and our renewable energy businesses, we will become a corporate group with an acute awareness of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that further contributes to a sustainable society and the global environment.
We will strive to become widely recognized and well thought of within society for our corporate excellence.
Final Year of OVOL Medium-term
Business Plan 2026
The Japan Pulp & Paper Group has positioned OVOL Medium-term Business Plan 2026 as a three-year period to develop specific mechanisms and initiatives to create economic and social value towards the realization of OVOL Vision 2030, and is formulating and implementing these initiatives based on three fundamental principles.
In addition, we will aim to achieve record high profits in FY2026 while focusing on capital efficiency, cash allocation, and shareholder returns to maximize our corporate value.
