Japan Pulp & Paper GmbH Earns “Silver Medal” in EcoVadis Sustainability Survey

Japan Pulp & Paper GmbH (Head Office: Düsseldorf, Germany; Managing Director: Shigeyasu Yamada), a subsidiary of Japan Pulp & Paper Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo; President and CEO: Akihiko Watanabe), was awarded the Silver Medal in the 2023 rating conducted by EcoVadis (Head Office: France), which is an international sustainability assessment agency. Based in Germany, Japan Pulp & Paper GmbH handles functional commercial materials such as label substrates, electronics-related products as well as film products, chemicals, and specialty papers in Europe.

EcoVadis is a company that assesses corporate ESG initiatives and provides information on the Internet cloud. As global sustainability awareness grows, many global companies are increasingly adopting EcoVadis’ assessments as one of the criteria for selecting suppliers. EcoVadis assesses companies on their policies, actions, and results in four sustainability themes: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Currently, more than 100,000 companies in 175 countries and 200 industries have been assessed by EcoVadis.

The degree of interest towards sustainability has been increasing in recent years, especially among European companies. Thus, obtaining assessments from reliable assessment agencies has high business significance.
Japan Pulp & Paper GmbH received requests from its clients in 2022 to obtain EcoVadis assessments and won the Bronze Medal for the first time. This time, the development of the Japan Pulp & Paper Group’s sustainability-related policies was further acknowledged; the company won the Silver Medal, one-rank higher than last year. The Silver Medal means that the company ranks in the top 26% of all the EcoVadis registered companies..

The Japan Pulp & Paper Group will continue to actively promote sustainability initiatives and implement sustainable business activities that realize both social and economic value.
